Late Pianist funds Emerging Composer Opportunities

9/28/2018

I honestly wasn't aware that pianist Robert DeGaetano had passed away--he actually passed away in late 2015 in Palm Beach.  DeGaetano was a pianist and composer, and evidently had an interest in helping the next generation of composers.

Thanks to a gift from the DeGaetano estate, the Orchestra of St. Luke's is the host for the DeGaetano Composition Institute.  Four composers will have an opportunity for guidance, and to have a work for chamber orchestra premiered by OSL.

The application period is open, and will close November 7.

New Classical Streaming Service

A group of over 70 Berlin based musicians and tech people have teamed up to create a new classical music streaming service called IDAGIO.  While I have not tried it, on the surface it appears to be very flexible, allowing listeners to explore classical music in many different ways.

After a 14-day trial period, there is a monthly fee.  (Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with IDAGIO, and do not receive any compensation from them.)
