A violin in its case was almost crushed recently at an English recycling center, but a quick thinking employee saved it.
Employees noticed a black case in the trash that was to be recycled. Thinking it might be wise to recover the case, they retrieved it and upon opening it found a violin in pristine condition. The violin will be sold in a charity sale at the end of the month. The whole story with photographs can be found here. It is (relatively) common knowledge that Adolf Hitler had an inflated sense of his own abilities--for example, he fancied himself to be an artist, attempting to gain entry as a student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts twice. He was rejected both times.
It has now come to light that the dictator also planned to compose an opera. The Times of Israel reports that among a collection of items held by one of the young Hitler's few friends is a sketch of the first page of an attempt at composing an opera by the future Nazi leader. Reportedly, he attempted to compose the opera after only a few months of piano lessons. The collection goes on display in Austria this weekend. The Times of Israel story can be read here. |
