I fondly remember the days when--as a young and eager student-- I could go into a particular large music store and peruse the scores of lots of pieces I'd never played (but might want to try). That store closed years ago, but there have been stores in other locations that have continued. One of those has been Frank Music Company in New York City. Due to dwindling sales--much of which is due to the availability of sheet music online--that store will close on Friday.
While there's a certain degree of convenience in buying scores online, for me there was nothing like being able to go in and touch and read through the music in a brick and mortar store.
