When this disk arrived in my mail a few days ago unsolicited (for possible airplay), I wasn't quite sure what to think of it--Haque is more well known as a jazz guitarist, and not every performer crosses over well from one genre to the other. As I discovered, such is not the case for Fareed Haque.
I was immediately taken by the first piece on the album, El Alevin (The Minnow) by Mexican composer Eduardo Angulo. I was totally unfamiliar with Angulo, but if this piece is an indication of his music, I'll be looking for more. It's a lot of fun, and has a little bit of a folk music feel at times. If you have a taste for music with a Latin influence, I think you'll find the other pieces on the disk worth your time as well.
For me, it's a worthwhile disk which I'm playing on air.
